Mortar Board Teams Up With Storm Hockey

As a fundraiser for Mortar Board, members sold tickets to the Tri-City Storm hockey game on January 12, 2013.  The event was a great success and Mortar Board says thank you to Storm Hockey and everyone who came out and supported the Xi Phi Chapter!  Check out the photos from the game below!

Mortar Board Faculty Appreciation Dinner

To show our appreciation for our faculty, the Xi Phi Chapter of Mortar Board hosted the annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner on November 7, 2012. Applebee's Dining to Donate

On October 30, 2012, Mortar Board teamed up with Applebee's for a Dining to Donate event.  At this event, ten percent of one's bill at Applebee's was donated to Mortar Board.  A big thank you goes out to Applebee's and everyone that came out to support Mortar Board!  Check out the pictures below from this successful night!

Night at the BOOseum!

On October 25, 2012, Mortar Board members volunteered at the Kearney Area Children's BOOseum! As part of this service project, members of Mortar Board helped with set up, assisted with games, handed out candy, and provided assistance to a variety of booths that were set up for the children to enjoy. 2011-2012 Chapter of Mortar Board Receives Awards

The 2011-2012 Xi Phi Chapter of Mortar Board received the prestigious Golden Torch Award at the 2012 Mortar Board National Conference.  This award recognizes a chapter for "superior exemplification of the Ideals of our Society through exceptional chapter operations and service to alma mater."  In addition to this award, the 2011-2012 Xi Phi Chapter also received a number of Project Excellence Awards for a variety of events and projects they organized and participated in throughout the course of the year.  These awards included:

24th ANNUAL HONORS CONVOCATION AND MORTAR BOARD INITIATION

APPLAUDING EXCELLENCE: RECOGNIZING STUDENT LEADERS--ONE OF OUR VERY OWN!

"On April 11, 2012, the UNK Office of Student Life Division of Student Affairs hosted the first annual Applauding Excellence: Recognizing Student Leaders reception and program. A number of students and student organizations were honored with awards. We are exceptionally proud of our Membership Selection Chair, McKenzie Wiese, who was named Outstanding Student Organization Leader. Not only did Mortar Board nominate her for her tireless efforts to plan, publicize, and lead the group through Membership Selection, the Loper Programming and Activities Council (LPAC) also nominated her for her service as LPAC President. This photo was taken with Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Joe Oravecz right after McKenzie received her award.

Considering officers from all 200 UNK student organizations were eligible for this award, this is indeed a tremendous honor. Thanks for all of your hard work and for representing Mortar Board so well, McKenzie!"- Dr. Amber Messersmith

HONORS CONVOCATION

As part of our leadership activities, the Mortar Board Chapter hosts the Honors Convocation in April each year.  At this event, the Chapter honors the outgoing Mortar Board members, recognizes and awards the Notable Freshman & Sophomore Award, and initiates the newly selected Mortar Board members.
The Honors Convocation event took place on April 15, 2012 at 2:00pm in the Ponderosa Ballroom at the Nebraskan Student Union.
